Los Angeles Airport 101: Everything You Need to Know About LAX-It

Anyone who’s flown to or from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) knows that its Central Terminal Area (CTA) can get exceedingly busy and chaotic. This problem became so severe that LAWA (Los Angeles World Airports) had to launch a centralised pickup area called “LAX-it” in October 2019 just to make getting picked up at the airport easier for passengers.

LAX-It is expected to remove about 15% of all vehicle traffic from the CTA, and will remain open until the Automated People Mover airport project reaches completion in 2023. While this change has somewhat reduced the notoriously long wait times at LAX, it also raised many questions among passengers who were accustomed to the previous system.

How long can you stay parked at LAX under the new rules? Where can your family drop you off? Where can your car service from LAX to Anaheim pick you up? In an effort to make your travels as hassle-free as possible, we’ll be providing answers to these questions in the following article. Read on.

What is the best way to pick someone up at the airport?

With the COVID-19 pandemic still going strong in the US, curbside pickup is by far the safest way to pick a passenger up at LAX. It has the added advantage of being straightforward: all you have to do is claim your luggage (if any), step into the car, and off you go.

If you don’t have a family member or an associate who can pick you up, your best option is to have an airport car service pick you up from the airport. In addition to high-end vehicles and experienced chauffeurs, these services offer a variety of other advantages.

These advantages include:

  • Reduced risk of COVID-19. By traveling in a private car that receives multiple cleanings per day, you’ll be spending minimal time around any strangers who may be infected with coronavirus.
  • Quality car seats. Reputable transportation companies prioritize client satisfaction. One of the ways they show this is by providing their customers with boosters, rear-facing, and forward-facing seats. To save time, they will even install them before they pick you up.

Who can pick up curbside at LAX?

Passengers who land at LAX can be picked up at the outer curb on the arrivals level (lower level) just outside the baggage claim area. Drivers who are picking up arriving passengers can wait at the 24-hour LAX Cell Phone Waiting Lot until the passengers notify them that they’re ready to be picked up.

The passengers should be waiting at the curb for the driver to arrive. If not, the driver will likely be forced to circle the airport. If the driver is meeting the passengers in person, they can leave their vehicle in short-term parking and wait outside of their terminal.

Where are the new drop-off points at LAX?

Due to the pandemic, Los Angeles Airport is currently only open to airport personnel, passengers who have valid tickets, and people who are assisting ticketed passengers. These passengers can be dropped off at the upper-level terminals.
